Kingsway Tram Tunnel

The Kingsway Tram Tunnel was originally opened in 1906 with just two pedestals. A third pedestal was added in 1939 when it was excavated further to allow for double height trams. The two original pedestals were later removed due to damage, along with all three lanterns.

English Heritage commissioned us to restore the pedestals, create new lanterns and restore the stonework.

We used the single remaining original pedestal to produce two faithful replicas. As the lanterns no longer existed, we made these directly from period photographs. All work was produced in-house at our workshop using period correct techniques to create an accurate copy of the original work.
